Peace Lutheran Church Leadership
All of our other members, as the need arises, step up-to-the-plate to provide leadership and assistance. We are family here at Peace--and all family members play an important part!
Pastor Bruce Lerum
Ordained August 3, 2008, Pastor Bruce Lerum first served St. James Lutheran Church in Jackson MI. He and his wife, Terrie, were there until beginning a new call March 1, 2012 to Victory Lutheran Church in Mesa, AZ where Pastor Bruce had served his internship in 2006-07. The call to Victory evolved into a call to Christ the Victor Lutheran Church, a satellite campus of Victory, on Father’s Day, June 15, 2014.
As that call progressed, God blessed Christ the Victor as they experienced steady growth of ministries and attendance. Serving through the first one and a half years of the pandemic, it came time to retire on June 13, 2021. After a year of retirement the opportunity to serve in an intentional interim pastor’s capacity came here at Peace Lutheran in Holbrook.
Prior to becoming a pastor, he and Terrie lived in Cottonwood, AZ where they were active in the community while owning and operating Village Furniture for 23 years. They have two children. Their son Bryan and his wife Kristen have a daughter and live in Gilbert, AZ. Their daughter Stacy and her husband Chris have three children, two girls and a boy, and live in Dewey, AZ.
Both Bruce and Terrie grew up in the Minneapolis area of Minnesota and moved to Arizona in 1978, just days after they were married. He is a 1978 graduate of St. Cloud State University (St. Cloud, MN) and Luther Seminary in 2008 (St. Paul, MN). Favorite things to do include spending time with grandkids and traveling with Terrie wherever the RV takes them.
Church Council 2022
Council Members: Katie Hill, Jeff Hill, Lisa Johnson, Junior Castellano, Tim Dixon, Irma Carpenter, Pastor Jeff Johnson, Vicki King
Originally from Iowa, Vicki is a lifelong Lutheran (from a Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod background) and has recently retired from a career as a registered nurse, most recently serving as the nurse-educator at the Little Colorado Medical Center in Winslow, where she lives. Hers is the cheerful voice of welcome at the start of each of our worship services! Vicki is one of a handful of members who travel from Winslow (30miles distance) each Sunday for worship and at other times for study, service and fellowship events. We appreciate this extra commitment from our Winslow folks!
Born in Mexico, Junior grew up in southern California and spent most of his adult years in Yuma, AZ. He is married to Kory and is the father of three all grown children. Junior manages the Love's Truck stop in nearby Joseph City. Junior and Kory are busy remodeling their recently purchased home in Holbrook.
Growing up in a military family, Lisa hails from various parts of our world but has resided in Holbrook for the last 37 years. Lisa worked as a Design Project Leader for Arizona Public Service (APS) for most of her working life. Lisa has been involved in various community organizations and a foster parent for several years. She also raised and raced horses on the race track and as a barrel racer. She joined our congregation in 2021 and brings a fresh and wonderful perspective to our church family. She serves as our Council Secretary.
Coming from Colorado originally, Katie is our VERY capable Treasurer, leading an active life as mother, accountant, treasurer for the Bread of Life Mission, editor of Higher Things ( a Lutheran Church -Missouri Synod publication for youth), plus wife to husband Jeff, and a good neighbor and friend to many.
Serving as our Financial Secretary is Germany-born Irma Carpenter. What a great job Irma does receiving, counting and depositing our money, keeping excellent records at every step of the way! Irma retired in early 2016 as the Finance Director of QK Holdings, the largest Denny's franchisee. Irma is an active grandmother and is married to Charlie.
Newly elected to our Council is Jeff Hill, husband to Katie and, along with Katie, parent to five young adults. A native of Holbrook, Jeff has driven trains for the BNSF railroad for nearly 30 years. He also served as Holbrook's mayor for several years. In his spare time, Jeff enjoys woods work, cutting trees and delivering firewood to those in need.
We thank God for Yolanda's musical accompaniment each Sunday! With a master's degree in piano performance and years of experience, Yolanda is a huge blessing to our little congregation. A widow for several years, Yolanda's only child, Jason Michael, lives in far-away Tennessee, making Peace Yolanda's family.
Hailing from Wisconsin originally, Barbara and her husband Joe have been Holbrook residents for over fifty years. In fact, Barbara was one of the charter members of our congregation. Barbara does a marvelous job as our sacristan, taking care of our worship space. Barbara enjoys her large family and spends her spare time cross-stitching. Many of us are the recipients of Barbara's beautiful artistry!
