Jeffrey A. Johnson
Pastor Jeff was born in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. A lifelong Lutheran, Jeff was graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota in 1980 with a Bachelor's Degree (history major). He received his Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Lutheran Seminary in 1984 and was ordained that same year. His first parish was Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, where he served for 6+ years. After moving to Arizona, Jeff worked as a youth pastor at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Flagstaff (2 years) and later as the Lutheran Campus Ministry pastor at Northern Arizona University (NAU) in Flagstaff (9 years). Along with his wife, Mary, Jeff served as missionary in Papua New Guinea (2 years) and then in Guam (9 years), where he was the pastor at The Lutheran Church of Guam. The Johnsons moved to Holbrook at the beginning of 2012 where Jeff began his ministry at Peace Lutheran Church, a position he held for 7 years. Jeff retired in August of 2019 but following a 1+ year retirement/sabbatical, he resumed the pastorate at Peace in October of 2020. He and Mary have recently purchased a home in Holbrook, indicating their intent to settle-in to the community and resume the pastoral reins at Peace until God leads another pastor to shepherd the flock. The Johnsons have four children: Joseph, Matthew, Elizabeth and Andrew; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Jeff enjoys reading, hiking, getting together with friends to play games, music and traveling.
